Hf Although hundreds of people attend the annual university debates, few really know Just how the debaters are selected and how they prepare them- l solves for the final contest. Naturally these preliminaries are very popular and from twenty to thirty students usually participate in them. The real work of the debaters begin after they have made the team. First they meet the alternates, then a picked I team from the school, two or three out- i fide teams and then they end up by 1 meeting a strong faculty team. The. content with the faculty generally takes place one week before the big contest so that the debaters will have time to re-construct re-construct and strengthen their sliat-1 sliat-1 tered arguments. Three Men Named. Thl.t year the judges selected T. J. I. TIowclls, Frank E. Ilolman, Henry "W. 1' Soule, John Jensen, Dale Park and V Thomas Reese from the contestants in the first preliminary to compete a sec-ond sec-ond time. Some of these students did not have time to enter a second conteac and because of other reasons requested the judges to render a decision, which resulted In the selection of the first I three as alternates In the order named.
