Show JETTER WANTS HIS LIBERTY Question of Appeal Bond in Criminal Cases Raised 0 I John W Jotter who ivan convicted a few days ago of receiving stolen r i I 1 goods and sentenced by Police Justice Timmony to serve six months In the county jail yesterday filed in the District Dis-trict court a petition for a wrIt of habeas corpus which was Issued and made returnable for argument before Judge Stewart this morning Jetter gave notice of appeal from the conviction l convic-tion and offered a bond of 125 double the amount of the costs relying on the statute which provides that appeal bonds from Justices courts shall be double the amount of the fine and costs There being no fine in this case but a straight sentence of imprisonment Justice Jus-tice Timmony held that the statute did not apply and that he as Justice had a right to fix tho bond which he did at 500 Jetter contends that his bond ot 3125 should be accepted and that he should be released |
