Show MONEY SURE TO COME House Committee on Public Buildings Certain to Increase Limit of Cost for New Postoffice S S S j S S r 5 Investigation of Site May Be Ordered Before Additional 1 Appropriation Appro-priation Vill Be Available Congressman King While Confident Confi-dent Site Is All Right Will 1 Stand Neutral r as to Investigation but Insists That It Shall Cause No Unnecessary Delay S TRIBUNE BUREAUS BUREAU-S 601 Fourteenth Street Washington D C Jan 7 lJQl Chairman Mercer of the House committee com-mittee on Public Buildings and Grounds will return to the city tomorrow to-morrow and the report of the omnibus bill from his committee which Includes appropriations for the public buildings at Salt Lake Boise and Cheyenne will follow shortly after his return Mr King however has been notified oC the Intention of several members to ofr ran r-an amendment to the 1 bill which will provide for an investigation of the site for the Salt Lake building before the additional appropriation for that building build-ing will be available Mr King says that while he is confident that the site Is all right he will stand neutral as to the Investigation but Insists that It shall cause no unnecessary delay NON IINERAII ARID LANDS Representative King today Introduced Intro-duced a bill providing for the cession of the nonmineral arid lands of the United States to the several States In which they are located In speaking of this bill Mr King said While both political parties have declared In favor of the reclamation of the arid lands of the country there seems to be no intention in-tention on the part of either to appropriate appro-priate for this Important purpose This undertaking by the national Government Govern-ment would mean the expenditure of hundreds l of millions of dollars and hence I doubt If the Government will ever undertake this stupendous and beneficent work It Is therefore better that the nonmineral lands should be ceded to the States The States could then adopt a course which would result In converting the arid lands Into a state of cultivation and having the lands In their control they could realize real-ize enough money from their sale for the construction of reservoirs While I do not hope for this bill to pass Ido hopo Interest the members of Congress Con-gress more than they have been In tho past in this Important question BRIEF MENTION James J Rogers of Bolso and Robert N Dunn of Wallace Ida have been admitted to practice before the Interior department George Newton Cheyenne Wyo has been appointed Dclerk In the Treasury department at 900 a year S A Gosemerker has been appointed postmaster at Mound House Lion county Nevada vice F A SFcaaland resigned Miles Durkee of Marysvale Utah has been granted a pension of 6 o month 5 I LAND DECISION SUSTAINED The Secretary of the Interior today sustained the decision of the General Land office approving tho action of the Douglas Wyo land office In rejecting protest filed by Elsie Hendrlcks against issuance to Bryan Brooks of patent to a homestead in the Douglas land district John Watson of Laramle Wyo was today granted a monthly pension of 16 with 550 back pay |
