though often cloudy weather The ball was started r to rolling with the wind increasing Its I gait from twenty miles an hour at 7 a m until 953 oclock when the wind S chnngcd suddenly from the couth to Eli 1fl the northwest and the mercury IIJ droppedfrom CO degrees to 32 degrees In fifteen minutes S This remarkable change was marked by an unusual phenomenon thunder V ANY 1 and the wind Jumped up to 10 miles an hour Tins t velocity ho ever was of less than half an hours duration and the force gradually was whittled down rr until at 2 j m It was ten miles an ai a i I hour and by 5 p m had dropped center was In southern 1 Idaho at C a m and passed over this I THRE5 city at 1040 a m going cast There has been thunder but once in January in this region in the history of the local I weather office and that was In January C Jan-uary 1SC In the month of December there has been but one occasion when there was thunder In 1SS7 while in February there were two instances in 1S82 and oneeach In 1891 and 191 IS The storm seems to have been gen S oral l over the coast States Idaho western Montana and Utah The Rio Grande Western railway report for 7 n m showed cloudy weather all along the line and the 1 p m report showed snow from Ogden to Helper with rainout I rain-out on the Green River desert to the a e S Stat line S I TROUBLE WITH WIRES There was considerable trouble with I the railroad wires In I the afternoon de laying business and the Short Line 5 people also experienced trouble from u + + + 4 444 the wet snow on the wires and their reports showed that the storm extended J + clear south to Frisco West of Poca 4 tollo it was raining except on the Wood tJ l 4 River branch where now fell East FlS U i S f of Pocatello there was snow Light f snow fell on the Montana division I S i North Temple and State 5 streets was stripped off with joists 5 and heavier timbers beneath and blown across the street Into the dooryard door-yard of No 112 The mass of tin broke off an electric light pole and grounded ground-ed the light and Rapid Transit com panys wires delaying travel I A It Is a curious fact that the adjoin I iV I ing residence to the north was not f 1 noticeably Injured 4 5 The terrace Is owned by the Brlg hnm Young estate and the part In OECO jured was occupied by D M Leonard who recently moved here from Kansas V I As the storm was at Its height before the roof took wings Mrs Leonard said Well Im awfully glad were not InS in-S Kansas for I would be afraid the house would blow down And at that instant in-stant said Mra Russell who was present there was terrible rumS rum-S lIng followed by the moving roof and flying brlrk and I thought the house was going sure S CHILDRENS NARROW ESCAPE At 130 Seventh East street Mrs J Is Store W Pitta at the time ot the blast
