Show I CONFESSION OF MARSHALL HIS STORY OF THE KILLING OF MBS CREECH Young Fellow Who was Arrested Hero and Taken to Butte Says the V Shooting was Accidental Early in April Edgar Marshall nounS n-ounS tough was arrested In this city He was looked upon as being merely a suspicions character at first When approached ap-proached by the policeman however ho broke and ran and it was only after a hard hunt that he was later captured south of the city A short time later it was learned that ho was wanted in Butte for the murder of Mrs Creech the wife of a saloonkeeper there His trial has now been on for several da sin s-In that city and on Wednesday last he went on tho stand and told the story of his life He said he was 10 years old and that his parents lived in South Denver from which place he beat his way to Butte and thence to this clly He pawned his gun at the Creech saloon in Butte for 150 but later a man named Barclay offered him 350 for It and they went to the saloon to pet It There he mot with a rebuff at tile hands of Bartender Drown and then Creech interfered in-terfered and told him It was a bad place to come to for trouble Words followed this and then Creech made a dash at him with a garden hose lie pulled another gun In selfdefense and as ho passed the side door of the sa loon Creech attempted to stop him smashing at him with a gun when he sank lo his knees from the effects of tho blow and his RUJI went off He said he was not aware that he had shot any body Ho was arrested but broke jail soon after being taken there and came to this city at once Here he met Barclay Bar-clay who said he workedfor the Denver Post and lie was the first man to tell him that Mrs Creech was killed I After Marshall had told his story Sheriff Howells and Deputy Harries were nut on the stand and they both said that Marshall had told them that he had never been In Butte Marshalls repulallon was also bad according to these ofllcers |
