Show PARLEYS WATERSHED RESERVE Letter from the Department t of the Interior Pointing Out Difficulties in the Way of the Plan I J r aI An obstacle has been struck In the matt or of setting apart as a forest reserve re-serve the public lands of the United States in Parleys canyon for the preservation pres-ervation of the purity of waters of Parleys creek The Mayor has received a communication communi-cation from the Interior department in which It is stated that it appears from the plats and records of the department de-partment that the public lands within the area are not fn2 compact body but lie scattered about among tracts that have been appropriated either by grant to the Union Pacific or under the various public land laws The department docs not think It ad visable to include the entire tract com posing the watershed in a forest reservation reser-vation as the extensive private holdIngs hold-ings embraced within the borders of such a reservation would furnish a basis for numerous lieu selections outside out-side of the reserve Such being the case the department could not go further fur-ther in acting upon the aitys memorial memo-rial i than to consider whether or not It would be advisable to recommend the making of a soparato and distinct forest reservation of each vacant and unappropriated lract within the ton ship Tho department asks uluuhcr the creation of separate reservations would meet the approval of tho city Tho Mayor the City Engineer and the City CouncilH Committee on Laws have the matter under consideration |
