Show EIGHTHOUR DAY ON CITY WORK j t Petition of Labor Organizations Favored by Council Committee on l r Aunicipal Laws t 1 At the meeting of the City Council committees last evQningstepjien Tyne I Pearl Hill and IIIram tlnrk appeared before the Committee on Municipal Laws with a request on behalf of the Utah Federation of Labor and the Building Trades council that an ordinance ordi-nance be enacted providing that all contractors doing Work for the city shall be required to work their employees em-ployees not exceeding eight hours a day This they said was in accordance with the statute which constitutes eight hours a clays labor on public works It was suggested that the simplest sim-plest way to obtain the result asked for would he for the city to insert a clause In contracts for work stipulating that theAcontraetor would not work his employees mom than eight hours a day The commlttoe was unanimous in tho view that the request of the petitioners peti-tioners should be granted and the matter mat-ter was referred to the City Attorney to draw up un ordinance accordingly |
