Show 1 DAY FTUiACCA BEES I ORDER HAS SUCCESSFUL OUT c JNG LAKE Numerous Members of OutofTqwn Tents Participate The Contests of the Day Wore Interesting The eState excursion the ilIaccn bees fo i Sallalryesterday was a splen aid success The attdndanceVwas large almost3DOO and there was not an unpleasant feature to mar the day Fully 1000 came In from outside towns Eureka sending the largest delegation 253 and receiving the prize Early in the day bathing boating and tho other attractions at the lake were well patronized but after 3 oclock a special programme was offered I of-fered One of the Interesting and amusing sports of the art rnooon was a baseball base-ball game played by picked nines S A roger captaining one side and W H Gray the th rThe team under Capt Cro S er evidently was not from Kentucky Ken-tucky as waler had no terrors for tho t men and they downed the other side by a score of K to 4 In rollerskating contest the la dys prize was won by Mrs Boylngton the gentlemans by R D Cardwell The 100yard footrace was won by Wait Griffin of Mercur the second prize by 1 E Lee of this city Alfred Varley of Eureka was awarded award-ed the J prize for being the oldest gen tleman Maccabce present while to Mrs Varley fell the prize for being the oldest lady Maccabee present and also tho prize for being the most popular visiting lady Maccabee The prizes for the boat race rowed by a lady and gentleman were awarded award-ed to Miss Nellie Poullon and D H Woodman The twontyslxduyold baby of Mrs Hollenbeck was awarded the prize for being the youngest baby on the ground A very pretty feature of the afternoon after-noon was tho dances of the children Tho prizes for the cakewalk were awarded to Miss Mary and Master Rucl I Halloran The prizes for the boys and girls dance were awarded to Evelyn Loder and Sarah Perkes there being no boy contestants Tho Springvlllc Maccabee band of twentyfive pieces Thomas Parry bandmaster and the Spanish Fork Maccabees band of seventeen pieces Joseph Morgan bandmaster contested for a fine banner presented by Wllkes Bros Both bands did very well Indeed In-deed hut the Judges gave the decision In favor of the men from Spanish Fork the presentation being made by Gus tae Groeger In the morning both bands ndraded the streets of Salt Lake and played several praiseworthy selections The waltzing contest of the evening was the closing feature of the special programme The contest was a spirited spirit-ed one but the judges finally decided In favor of Miss Lottie Powell and Frank Hoagland for first prizes Miss Mattie Bywater and Will Brown for second prizes and made special mention men-tion of Edwin Rushton David Hempstead Hemp-stead the Democratic candidate for District Attorney was open for honors In the wallzlng contest and his marks wore well up but Parley Christensen a wouldbe candidate for the same position po-sition on tho Republican ticket was one of the judges andwell that is another an-other story The visiting delegations included I tents from Tlntic district Mammoth Eureka and Robinson Mercur Spring vllle Spanish Fork Eyanston Wyo Payson Prdvo Ogden and Park City All the visitors came to the city In special trains and returned to their homes last evening The committee In charge of the day included Dr J C Hanchett W A TIght Gustavo Kroeger and George II Inglmm and to these gentlemen great credit Is duo for lie very successful suc-cessful way in which affairs were conducted con-ducted During the day the following telegram tele-gram from Supreme Commander Mar Roy was rend and received with great applause J C Hnnchelt Sail Lake Express to Utah Maccabees at Sallalr beach our lhanks for work done this year also fraternal fra-ternal gifcetlngH nnd the hope thai Utah will have rcprcscnlallvo In supreme lent next year D P MARICBY Suyrome Commander |
