Show A CALIFORNIA SERMON Preached By One Whose Father Was HcZinleys Pastor San Francisco Dec 12Dr Charles Edward Locke the pastor of Central Methodist church in his sermon this evening made the following reference to the death of Mrs McKinley the mother of the president Dr Locke was discussing the subject sub-ject What Shall I do With My Doubts After having shown the penalty of doubt and the sad termination of the lives of some of the great doubters he said But let me also remind you of the rewards of faith and of the transfigurative glory in which many believers have swept through the shadows of death into the splendors of eternity As a nation we bend today with a griefstricken family ovr the bier of the mother of the president You will permit me to tpeak as one who mourns in a particular sense on account of this bereavement When I 1 was a school boy my father was the honored pastor of the McKinley family Among my most cherished memories of those happy days are the frequent occasions when the pastor and his family were invited to accept the cordial hospitality of the McKinley fireside In the translation of mother McKinley Mc-Kinley we realize the vision of one of Gods princesses and happy Christians a loving and prayerful wife and mother She has now joined her gallant gal-lant husband who five years ago preceded pre-ceded her to the better world He was a stalwart and invincible defender of I the faith in belief and practice and died triumphantly like the warrior I who wraps the drapery of his couch I around him and lies down to pleasant dreams I As the president weeps today we weep with him Doubtless he has I often said all that I am I owe to my Christian parents I hI is not hard to understand the j remarkable career of President McKinley Mc-Kinley if you have been honored with I acquaintanceship in the home in which he was born and trained It was an ideal Christian home Mrs McKinley was one of the nations truest mothers I Pure Christianity is the secret of I happy and successful living and peaceful peace-ful and triumphant dying I |
