Show S Another FreIght Depot at Omana Probable OMAHA Sept 2Special telegram r UlilE HEItALDAt a conference between the Hock Island and Milwaukee officialsc this afternoon to take action relative to the Union Pacific and Missouri Pacific deny ing the right of the former roads to handle freight on the Union Pacific bridge the companies about decided to build a large freight depot on the grounds purchased last winter for depot purposes The present pres-ent differea es arose over the refusal of the Union Pacific to turn over freight billed via the Milwaukee road from Council Bluffs to that road in Omaha the same differences existing between tho Missouri Pacific and Rock Island The latter has gone so far as to refuse freight at all unless un-less turned over It Omaha while the Milwaukee Mil-waukee is receiving it under protest The freight depot question was debated in al its phases but it was decided to bold final settlement of the matter in abeyance until the general manager of the Missouri Pacific has held conference Pacifc a with the general gen-eral manager of the Union Pacific and decided i de-cided on what will be done by those roads I this decision is not satisfactory the Rock Island and Milwaukee will at l1waukee wi once proceed to erect a freight depot of their own and handle their own freight instead of having the Union Pacific perform that duty Already the matter has been taken hold of by tho citizens ctizens and a move is on foot to sell the two roads more land in the vicinity of the nail works property and one gentleman who is interested in tho progress of Omaha remarked this morning that he had no doubt the shippers of this city would unite with the Rock Island and Milwaukee in heir contest with the Union I Pacific and divert freight to these roads j whenever it was possible |
