Article In Reference to the I Fornsternmabers Mr and Mrs Amos Fernstermaker are in the city preparing to bring a suit for 25000 damages against the Tribune for the 1 publication of a libelous article in the daily Tribune of April 28tb and the weekly room-Tri Tribune of April 30th The article is entitled Fiendlike Act to a hildA Little Gin Turned Out Into tho Desert to Die Her Rescue The Fernstermakers are well todo ranch people living upon the Box Elder ranch Tooelo county Utah They are quite old people and have raised a large I family of children three girls and fivq boys In October 18S9 these old people took little Caroline Hanson to raise in order to have a child to comfort their hearts in their old age The Tribune article starts out by saying that this is one of the worst cases of cruelty ever heard of in this bune-sec section of country and states that the Fern stermakers turned the child out on the 24th of April and told her to go somewhere they did not care where and never to come back again The article further states They told her at the time that she must not go near the sheepherders or they would kill her and with this fear in her heart the poor child started out to find another home After wandering about on the desert for two days and two nights sleeping in the sagebrush she was found by one of the sheepherders and when discovered she begged piteously for her life thinking that she was in danger of being killed Tho herder whose name is J R Murdoch had I a hard time trying to quiet her and when he finally did he took her to his cabin and ministered to her wants She was tion-thor thoroughly exhausted and nearly starved oughly-and it was no small task to get her back t ando a condition where it would be safe IQ give her 11 nlll that she wanted to cat and drink The I Job was finally accomplishedand then ho took her to Heber City where he lives and where she fouud kind hearts and willing hands to attend to her I Yesterday he started for Tooele and there he will swear out a complaint against tho people who have treated her so brutally bru-tally and will see to it that they are brought to the justice that they so fully dove ser do-ve ti Tha case is actually one of the most heartless of its Icind on record and the people that would be guilty of such a deed must be very bad indeed The matter of sending her away was bad enough God knows but their action in telling tno child that she must not appeal to anyone fort for-t is what their warning amounted to is absolutely fiendish It would seem that they wanted her to go out and starve to death and that they planned to that end When found the little girl was in an emaciated condition and had had nothing to eat for nearly three days and was almost famished for water The Fernstermakors live at what is called Box Elder ranch which is about ten miles above Grantsville in the i county of Box Elder The inhuman people will have a chanca to answer to the courts for the deed and it is hoped that they will be made to suffer for their actions ac-tions tioG These old people are greatly enraged about the appearance of the above in the Tribune andsay the child ran away on Saturday Sat-urday < about 4 pm and was found Sun day about noon That she went away un known to any member of the family and that when she was missed every member of the family spent the night in search When MiMi rs Fernstormaker found the child at Mrs Colemans near Tooele City she was anxious and did return home with her They say that the child has a monomania for running off and that this was tho fourth time she had run away since Octo ber 1SS9 First time she hid in the barn over night second time she went out with her little wagon to get chips and although there was a slight snow on the ground and the child was thinly clad yet she aban doned her wagon and ran toward the mountains moun-tains Five persons spent the night in search as it was cold enough to freeze the child to death They found her the next day about 2 p m in a deep gulch and her little Sere w S-ere frozen The next time she ran away with a little pup in her firms and after six hours search was found by the aid of a bloodhound on South Willow ridge In August of last year she ran away again early In the morning and was found by the hired girl after sunset Five persons had spent the day in searching for her Our informant spent the night at Box Elder ranch and talked to little Caroline personally person-ally out of the presence of the Fernster makers and the child said the day she ran away the last time she had not been whip ped or abused and had not been told to leave that she did not know why she ran away that the folks had never whipped or abused her that the time she abandoned her little wagon she saw something black that told her to run away The child knows her letters but cannot read She talks sensibly in answer to questions but has a strange look about the eyes that sug gests monomania It is all bosh about a complaint being sworn out against these people but they will see to it that the paper that published the above libelous article and all persons that had anything to do with it are hold to answer Hoods Saraparilia Is a concentrated extract of Sarsaparilla Yellow Dock PIpsissewa Juniper Berries Mandrake Dandelion and other valuable vegetable remedies every ingredient being
