Chicagos California Wine Restaurant Special I to THE HERALD Examiner Dlspatch1 Chicago May 16 California wines and fruits prevailed last night on classic Wa aI bash avenue The California viticultural restaurant and cafe at No 294 on that thoroughfare gave its inaugural banquet and formal opening The beautifully beautiUly decorated dec-orated rooms of the establishment establshment were decorated with California Calforia plants and were I visited by about two hundred and fifty invited in-vited guests mostly Californians who sat down at 7 oclock to an elaborate banquet All the wines were of the vintage of the Golden Gate state and all the fruits were from there also The cafe is established by tho California Viticultural commission and IS placed under tho charge of Albert Franck Thi was the opening night and the Thomas and Mandolin orchestra dis tilled soft music through the perfuiaedlud ened air while the guests sipped sauterne zinfandel or and champagne tried to un derstand the French waiters trief effort was distinctly not a success and French waiters and wines were roundly and unan imously i condemned en masse Otherwise the affair was a maginificent success in every particular and the cafe is now one of the recognized institutions of the Worlds fair city
