Ix NEW YORK tho question has arisen as to whether an employer has the right to discharge an employee or dock his wages for absence in serving ou a jury Ono judge j declares that ho would regard such action as an obstruction of the law and would bo disposed to visit upon the offender severe penalty There is patriotism in this view but when it comes down to a plain vq question of justice where does society tine the right to compel one man to employ and pay another for service performed for the j r public It would bo a man man who would discharge an employee who was forced to perform jury service but we doubt that the Now York judge would be sustained if he were to punish the employer for that discharge
