| Show Produce Exchange Business was only fair on change yesterday yester-day The demand has rather exceeded the supply this week and staple produce was very scarce yesterday Prices have remained re-mained about firm except on old potatoes and they wore not wanted at any price The exchange has about completed arrange I ments for a new departure which will have a tendency to increase the volume of business in the future Yesterdays sales reached 1000 pounds of cabbage ten cases of oranges 2000 pounds of green Vegetables five cases of lemons and twenty cases of eggs The receipts and shipments For the week are quoted as follows Butter pounds 2000 eggs cases 300 j dressed poultry pounds 200 live poultry dozens thirtyfive green vegetables pounds 25000 pickles kegs 200 berries cases 525 cabbage ono car load potatoes twentyfive car loads vinegar onehalf car load wheat seventeen car loads flour seven car loads j feed and mill stuff two car loads oranges one car load j lemons one car loud j salt one car load Sounds From Small The difficulty which arose between Sam Small and J Wesley Hill pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of this city some time ago over matters concerning I concern-ing themselves and the Utah university took another phase yesterday A special telegram making nearly a column col-umn and threequarters of matter was sent to and published in the Standard yesterday morning It will be remembered Small came to Ogden almost a year ago as an evangelist The Methodists of this city became infatuated infatu-ated with him and some of his flowery sermons ser-mons which contained to a large extent that invisible substance more commonly I known as wind At that time the bishops of tho church and the directors of the Utah Wesleyan university were looking for a man to become be-come president of the institution When the name of Sam W Small was presented it met with unanimous favor and the reverend gentleman was declared president with an annual salary fixed at 4000 per year He was ordered to spend the first season in making a lecturing tour of the country the proceeds of which wore to be turned over to the board of directors Things went along smoothly for a while Small reported to the authorities here that ho was meeting with splendid success in his efforts to raise money to complete the building As timo wore on no tidings came from tho reverend gentleman and finally ho was asked to resign because o f his failure to account for the moneys pass ing through his hands By this time J Wesley Hill made some surprising exposures which had a bad bearing on the Rev Samuels character and conduct In his telegram Mr Small declares tha Rev J Wesley Hill who by the way was hIs warmest colleague during his stay in i Ogden is an infamous liar hypocrite and sham of a preacher He cites him as being one of the most versatile rascals out of the penitentiary false in word and oath to his wife and to his God And in words oven stronger and more unbecoming for a preacher A director of the university was seen bj a HERALD representative yesterday afternoon after-noon and approached concerning the repor that the Ogden pastor and the board o f directors of the university had been sued by Small for criminal libel The gentlema stated that ho knew nothing more about it than what he had learned through the medium of the press The reporter called at the residence of Mr Hill but he was nat ot n-at homo at the time so his views on the charges made against him by Small coul not bo learned |
