| Show I DEPUTIES APPOINTED Mr Brigham Selects Els Assistants at Ogden and TroTO E TV Exum to Be Chief nt tho former Place and oxSheriff Fowler at the Latter United States Marshalelect Brigham was at home to applicants for office at hia headquarters m the Dooly block yesterday and was waited upon by a large number 0 applicants for the subordinate positions which ho controls He was seen by a HERALD representative late in the afternoon after-noon and stated that he bad decided on the following appointments O denE W Exnm chief Tomas H Ballantyne and A M Smith deputes depu-tes Provo Thomas Fowler chief Major William Berry and W K Henry depu tiesMr I Mr Exum the chief of the Ogden department de-partment served as a deputy under Marshal Mar-shal Dyer and was one of the applicants for the marshalship Mr Ballantyne ono of his assistants was formerly city marshal of Ogden and Mr Smith is n brother of Judge Kentucky Smith Thomas Fowler the chief of the Provo department is the wellknown exsheriff of Utah counly and Major Berry is a prominent G A E Democrat In regard to the Salt Lake appointments appoint-ments Mr Brigham stated that he bal not fully decided upon his assistants herewith here-with the exception of Alfales Young who has been appointed warden of the penitentiary but would make them public pub-lic as soon as he had done so Neither had he decided as to other points of the territr at present but has a large number num-ber of applicants on file out of which he will select the chosen few in a day or two Mr Brigham will take the oath of office tomorrow afternoon and the deputies depu-ties already appointed will follow suit at the same time or the succeeding day There is some speculation as to who will be the fortunate aspirants in this city but the agony will at least be over in a short time In the meantime the old deputies are trying to look thankful for what they are about to receive |
