| Show EXPORTS OF WHEAT An Enormous Amount Shipped During the Past Four Weeks NEW YORK June 28 A morning paper says the enormous export of wheat from this port during the past few weeks has created a demand for canal boats which far more than equals the supply There are 800 boats here unloading and loading Captains are so busy they will not wait for return cargoes unless they get them within twentyfour hours There is 1200000 bushels of wheat stored in New York Brooklyn and Jersey City and in course of transportation 1500COO bushels on the lakes and 2600000 bushels bush-els in the Erie canal and Hudson river on its way to Europe to be turned into gold In addition to this over 14000000 bushels bush-els of wheat including flour cleared from Atlantic and Pacific ports during the four weeks ended June 23 Engage meats for freight room have already been made at Atlantic ports alone for 10000000 bushels that will co abroad within the next thirty or fortyfive days This aggregate ag-gregate of 24000000 bushels of wheat shipped since May 27 to be exported within a few weeks is equivalent to a draft upon banks in Europe for over 16 500000 even at the phenominally low prices at which the cereal is now selling |
