WAS IT SUICIDE Did Young Van Pelt Take His Own Life NEW YORK June 28 Frederick G Van Pelt the young man who died in San Francisco last night from taking thirtyeight ounces of chloroform was the son of Gilbert S Van Pelt of this city Van Pelt today said I feel positive that my son did not commit suicide He used chlorform and morphine for some years but we were I not aware of the fact till about a year ago We had not seen him for about seven years and had not heard of him in months I when about three weeks ago we were surprised to have him walk into the house one evening and inform us that he wanted assistance to help him get a divorce di-vorce from his wife I I After a stay of a few days he went back west and since we assisted him financially in his divorce suit I have one letter from him since his departure in which he wrote in a very happy vein assuring us that everything was going satisfactorily
