| Show WAITING FOR THEIR PURSES I Why the California Horsemen Have Not Left the City The California horsemen who won the big parses on Friday and Saturday are still in the city and they are crying for their money There was a decidedly blue tone to the atmosphere about the Cullen hotel last evening Several of the horsemen made a vigorous uso of certain cogent parts of speech that are more forceful than elegant ele-gant The trouble is a very natural one and grows out of natural causes The Driving Driv-ing Park association owes the horse men some 2700 and is without the available funds to pay it with It appears that a certain bank took snap judgment on the I association to even up an old overdraft II Secretary Parks deposited in this bank I some e 2900 of money he received I from entries but when he came to check it out he found that the cashier had taken time I by the forelock and credited the I money against an overdraft that had been I running since last year This loft the association I as-sociation in the hole and it is without the means to satisfy the claims If it were not for the tightness of the times tho directors di-rectors could raise the money for the asking Of course the association expect ex-pect to make the amount good as soon as it can call on the stockholders stock-holders to pay up their subscriptions to the capital stock The association is as good as gold and the money will be forthcoming as soon as the directors and stockholders pay in There is not much sympathy for the California end for it is believed that they made much more in the pool boxes than their purses amount to The Saturday races it is generally believed be-lieved ought to have been declared off on account of jobbing and this decision would have been very fair But this was not done and it is too lato to squeal now The directors are men of honor and means and they will adjust these claims at as early a date aa possible |
