| Show BOULEVARD ROUTES The Plan Proposed by thc Business Sleiis Committee A Material Change from the Route First SelectedA City Council Report Mr Richs Objection At last nights session of the city council coun-cil a communication from a committee of the Business Mens association signed by George Y Wallace A G Bast H C Goodspeed William Burke Le Grande Young and E F Colburn was submitted submit-ted outlining the route of the proposed boulevard which is as follows Commencing at the accepted center of the city the southeast corner of the Temple Tem-ple block thence northwesterly passing the Deseret university square to the Warm Springs park thence in a southeasterly south-easterly direction to a point near the northwest corner of the capitol grounds thence around the capitol grounds to a point near City Creek canyon thence northeasterly following the course of the water mains connecting Capitol Hill reservoir res-ervoir with Capitol Hill tank on the westside west-side of City Creek canyon a distance dis-tance of about 5000 feet to Capitol Hill tank the tank is about 46 feet higher than the reservoir Thep follow down the road at the bottom of the canyon to the brick tank house thence southeasterly along the east side of City Creek canyon to the tower built by Mr Anderson the same being at or near the intersection of A and Seventh streetsthe tower is but 21 feet higher than the brick tank housethence east to the western boundary of the city cemetery ceme-tery thence south and east to the Fort Douglas military reservation thence southeasterly to and through Fort Douglas Doug-las thence southwesterly by way of Mount Olivet cemetery to or near the intersection intersec-tion of Sixth South and Thirteenth East street thence west passing the Exposition Exposi-tion square thence south to Liberty park returning pass the county and city Building Build-ing to the center of the city WHEN THE CITIZENS DECIDE Two members of the committee on improvements im-provements roported as follows in the matter of the proposed boulevard Whenever the citizens decide on a route and commence work on the same we recommend that the city engineer be instructed in-structed to make the survey over the city land connecting with the route decided on by citizens and property owners and the street supervisor be ordered to perform per-form the necessary grading over the same The report was rejected THE ROUTES CRITICIZED Following the rejection of this report there was a controversy as to certain routes proposed by members of the council coun-cil Rich was very pronounced his opposition op-position to the Capitol Hill route on the ground that it was simply a scheme of j certain property owners to boom land in that vicinity He didnt object to the i I boulevard but he did object to the council coun-cil putting up money to enhance private j interests when the owners of the property prop-erty should put it up themselves j Moran was of the opinion that several i of the members didnt know what they I 1 did want except that they would all probably want the boulevard in their own locality I Finally the entire matter was recommitted I recom-mitted to the committee on streets |
