Show FLOOD IN NEW JERSEY Trenton Is Partially Submerged and Much Damage Inflicted Other Towns Along the Delaware River Are Inundatpd Many Furnaces Compelled Com-pelled to Shut Down TRENTON N J Feb 10The ice which closed the Delaware river for six weeks broke at Lambertsville sixteen miles above here this noon and at once started on down the stream At Periwig bar the ice formed a jam and backwater resulting there from flooded parts of South Trenton The river rose seven feet in two hours during the afternoon Towards To-wards dusk it went down about a foot but later began to rise again and there is now every indication of a flood severer than that of 1882 when several parts of the city was submerged Much damage is done on Fair street which is the river front South Trenton is under water already and people are paddling about the street in boats The flood han been anticipated for weeks and such preparations made for its occurrence that damage to property will be kept down Assanging creek which runs through the city is also high and by tomorrow may overrun its banks and put out many furnace fires a well as flood dwelling houses and cellars Reports from Morris vie and other Pennsylvania villages along the river both above and below Trenton are to the effect that water has begun to overrun them |
