can be found 1 Castle valley and the hills surrounding sur-rounding A mine has just been opened up six miles south of Price within two hundred hun-dred feet of the main traveled road to Huntington and several men arc at work developing it i and in prospecting in the vicinity People have been passing this place daily for several years and it seems haVo only recently discovered that it hive contains ores of value The people of this section of Utah during the past have paid little or no attention to mining and are just realizing the fact that they might reap I rich reward by spending a little time in prospecting for gold and silver I is claimed by some that because of the groat coal fields to be found in Eastern Utah the chances for finding the precious metals in paying quantities are lessened To some extent we agree with this theory but judging from the samples sam-ples of ore we have seen from tao San Rafael and other portions Qf Castle valley we believe that they possess rich deposits of silver and copper The experience of the past is that gold and silver are just where least expected The people of Prico should make some effort ef-fort to induce the mine owners near Vernal Ver-nal to ship their ore via Price Several good silver mines are being worked in Ashley county and ore is to be hauled daily to the Union Pacicific road the distance from the mines being fiftyseven miles less than it is to Price A great many di flicul ties have to be encountered however by tho teamsters over the north route the road being very rough and hilly and a considerable con-siderable portion of the time being entirely impassable on account of snow while between be-tween here and Vernal there is a first class road with a down grade on the other side of Vernal the greater part of the distance to the mines The people of Vernal Ver-nal contemplate building road to the mines and estimate the cost at 2000 to 3000 a portion of which amount the people of Price should raise providing they can be assured that they will receive in turn a goodly supply sup-ply of freight The Rio Grande Western road should informed of the movement and we believe it would render all possible I assistance as it is interested in the up1 building of towns along its line and also at the present time handles no part of the ore that is taken from the mines in question Price Telegraph |
