Show The Direct Tax Bill WAsniNGTONFeb2S direct tax bill which has gone to the President provides in substance that the secretary of the treasury treas-ury shall credit all states and territories a sum equal to all collections by way of setoff set-off or otherwise under the terms of the direct di-rect tax act of 1861 All monies still due the United States under that act are remitted re-mitted A sufficient sum of money is appropriated ap-propriated to be paid when the legislatures I shall have accepted the sums in full satisfaction satis-faction of all claims against the United States on account of the direct tax levy The money appropriated to pay individual claims is to be held in trust by the state authorities au-thorities six years being allowed for the reception of these claims |
