signs for the coming year is the action of W S McCornick who in todays HEHALD advertises forbids for-bids for the construction of his new bank building A month ago the money market was in such a critical condition that for the time Mr McCormick held his plans back and awaited for the cloud of distrust to clear from the monetary sky The improvement im-provement in the money market that has occurred since the silver agitation has ceased has been so decided that Mr Mc ing Cornick enterprise will now go ahead with his build The plans which he has received from the I hands of his architect Mr Mendellsohn I are elaborate and picture out a building I that will be six stories high and in architectural archi-tectural effects and solidity of structure will equal if not surpass any now seen on Main street The corner room will be fitted up with sumptuous appointments and on the completion of the building occupied by the McCormick bank The building is to bo erected on the old Cunnington corner across the street from the Deseret bank which will give this part of Main street two of the largest banking institutions in the city Salt Lake Clearing House Yesterdays clearings were S39353S as for the same month a year ago show that there is considerable activity ac-tivity in the market and a healthy movement move-ment in the face of a depressed money market A year ago when the sales aggregated two or three million dollars a month the brokers thought they were doing a land office business and the word went out that Salt Lake was enjoying a tremendous boom Though the sales for the past month have been onethird of those ofthe boom period the brokers are discouraged when they should be congratulating themselves that in this city there is a healthy demand while the business in other places has come to a standstill There is every prospect of an improvement improve-ment in the eastern money marker and when this is realized there will be such an influx of capital to this city as will no doubt increase the sales to even a larger aggregate than they reached last winter A Million in Homes Salt Lakes building record last year was one t be proud of but it will not compare com-pare with the record which will be made this year The growth of the citys population popu-lation has kept pace with its commercial advancement and while it is encouraging to see the great business blocks going up in the business centres it is equally encouraging en-couraging and worthy of note to see the numerous handsome residences going up in all parts of the city because that indicates the solidity of the growth in population The great majority of the people who have come here recently are home seekersmen who have come to cast their lot with ours and for this reason i is a satisfaction to know that the heavy investment referred to will be in residences As was indicated I some time ago Frank E McGurrin I and Elmer E Darling have been considering the plan of erecting a large number of fine homes in the locality known as Darlington Place The success which they met with in a similar enterprise though on a much smaller scale last year determined them to carry out this plan which has now assumed definite shape and which will be proceeded with at once The gentlemen wisely decided to confine their operations to one locality as in that way each improvement was so much gained to the entire locality To this end they purchased pur-chased all the land on the market in the vicinity vi-cinity of Darlington Place and are now in excellent shape for a season of busy work They propose to erect there this year a large number of thoroughly modern residences resi-dences such as would be a credit to any city The total cost of these improvements will aggregate about t million dollars but it is not to be inferred from this that either of the gentlemen referred to are millionaires million-aires They are however backed by eastern east-ern friends of wealth who are anxious to make such an investment as the interest is larger and the security better than anything any-thing that can be obtained in the east Real Estate and Building Notes Fred A Hadra is just completing a snug residence at
