Show Womens Suffrage Convention WASHINGTON Feb 28The first three addresses at todays session of the women suffragists wereby Emma Smith DeVoe Mrs Alice J Rickler of South Dakota and Henry B Blackwell of Massachusetts On the subject of the last South Dakota campaign Mrs Rickler felt sure that the campaign had laid the foundation for ulti mate success in South Dakota and at no distant day At the evening session Mrs DIckenson chairman of the committee on petitions submitted a report regarding the efforts of the past year in interesting organized voters in the proposed amendment t the national conslitution extending the right of suffrage to women Correspondence was had with trades and labor assemblies Knights of Labor the Farmers Alliance and the American Federation of labor many Grand Army posts and the National Council of Ministers All of these organizations endorsed the proposition proposi-tion except the ministers who declined to act on the ground that it did not concern them The organizations mentioned were supplied with petitions t Congress returning return-ing them with one million signatures Mrs DIckenson says from the outlook there is no doubt they will secure the signatures of at least 2OCO000 voters to the petition A long set of resolutions was passed congratulating the suffragists on the victory achieved In Wyoming and partial victories in other states and pledging the organization efforts t renewed and strenuous |
