on the 31st ultimo Colonel Blunt inspected and mustered the infantry on Thursday morning last whilst LieutenantColonel Penrose did the same for the battery Captain T V Morris and Lieutenant Stephen Hackney Sixteenth infantry were mounted as officers the day and of oJ ficers of the guard this morning TheSixth infantry which was stationed here prior to the Sixteenth has changed its station from Fort Leavenworth Kansas to Newport barracks Kentucky For the fiscal year ending June 30 last the desertions from the infantry at this post were only eleven against twentyfive enlistments A truly good showing The teamsters of the quartermasters department have had bandages and other veterinary appliances issued to them to use on the coming march in cases of sprains or other injuries among the mules In lieu of the regular weekly hops given by the officers of the garrison which have been dispensed with wih owing to tho extreme heat the regimental band will give an open air concert every Friday be con lined to the second and tnird years of en listment During the first month of the second year it will cost the dissatisfied dissatisled soldier t120 to purchase his discharge and thereafter 5 less per month for each sue ceeding month until the end of his third year when I ho has rendered honorable service he can be discharged without cost on lijs J own application Under section 2 of thaact three months furlough upon his own application to his department commander provided that service antecedent to date of furlough was faithful Manager Keller our amusement caterer was the recipient of a
