I IT is rather a bad showing which Arizona makes the census returns the enumerators enumera-tors being ablo to find only 51COO people exclusive of Indians in tho entire Territory tory This is what a Tucson telegram says We had hoped for a far better showing by our southern neighbor and had certainly expected a much better showing Ten years ago Arizona had a population of 40440 nnd since then has been supposed to be forging ahead in true western style but we find at the end of the decade an increase of only 40 per cent I is apprehended that the census developments will delay indefinitely nitely tho admission of tho territory as 1 state for even the Republicans could not find tho courage to take into tho Union a state which did not have onethird tho people peo-ple necessary to entitle it to a single Representative Repre-sentative in Congress Arizona will have to do some better rustleing in future than she has done in the past if shewould secure statehood before the end of the century
