| Show The Railroad Inv > stlgatlon at Omaha OMAHA Neb Dec 1 Special telegram to THE HLRALD Tho railroad officials won first blood today in the investigation instituted by the interstate commerce commission by securing the Indefinite postponement of the case against the Missouri Mis-souri Pacific the most serious one It was made necessary by the failure of the federal fed-eral officials to find a number of Important witnesses Three gentlemen who are very much wanted as witnesses have disappeared and the United States marshals have not yet found an opportunity op-portunity to read certain subpoenas to them The missing men are Goorge Car man superintendent of the Western Weighing association It Orr auditor au-ditor of the Western Weighing association and James Vile jr manager of the Omaha Packing company Mr Carman has an office in Chicago but he has not been there tor rome time past and those in charge of the office say he is out west A subpoena has been on the trail of Mr Carman for two week but it has been altogether too slow to catch that gentleman gen-tleman Mr Orr has his headquarters and his home in Omaha and until two weeks or so ago it was not such a very hard matter to see him or at least to locate hIs whereabouts but now well he disappeared disap-peared from Omaha when the present trouble began to brew and apparently forgot for-got to come back It generally takes something some-thing more than an accident to keep a man out of the track of a hungry deputy marshal mar-shal whose bread and butter depends on serving subpoenas but Mr Orr seems to hive been the lucky exception to the rule Mr Viles also hss his home in the city but Uncle Sams representatives have been assured that he only comes to Omaha about once a month spending moot of his time in the cast These gentlemen are regarded as very important witnesses against the Missouri Pacific and tho prosecution dislikes to goon go-on with the investigation until they are brought within the grasp of the court It was hoped that they would be located by to day and there is a whisper in official circles of a possible sensation These cases will try the patience of the grand jury The alleged discriminations are eatd to I cover a period of twentythree months and L the jury is contemplating the task of going I through the traffic records of that time ADO I A-DO service could bo secured the United I States attorney bad the Missouri Pacific I case continued till next term declaring that Goulds officials could not balk him and that they would yet have the men be foro the grand Jury The other cases will come up tomorrow |
