Show Hike-Bike Scheduled The annual Hike-Bike for the retarded is scheduled this year for Saturday, Sept. 23, and is again sponsored by the Davis County Association for Retarded Citizens, an affiliate of both the Utah and the National Na-tional Associations. "MENTAL retardation is our nation's largest handicapping handicap-ping condition of children. A retarded child is born every five minutes in our country. Funds are again being sought by local associations to help insure that child's fair share in the human rights and services ser-vices we all enjov." said Reid Holbrook, the 1978 chairman. The Hike-Bike campaign calls on volunteers to ride or walk the measured, designated designat-ed course. Businesses, neighbors neigh-bors and friends will be asked to pledge a certain amount for each mile ridden by participants. par-ticipants. Almost two hundred riders signed up last year, and the committee hopes to double the number this year. ANTELOPE Island and back will be the destination for both the north and south county groups. The ride begins at Vae View Park in Layton. How do the south end riders get up to Vae View? State Senator Jack Bangerter has offered the use of his trucks to , transport bicycles from pickup pick-up points in the south, and buses will provide transportation transpor-tation for the riders or hikers.
