Show 36,000 Davis Stuf Return To Classro ! FARMINGTON - When school bells rang throughout the Davis School District, Monday, the clang was answered an-swered by more than 36,000 students at dozens of schools throughout the county. DEPUTY SUPT. Lawrence Welling says 36,257 students attended school the first day, an increase of 351 over attendance at-tendance fitures for the final day of school for the 1977-78 year on May 26. "We anticipate an-ticipate a larger enrollment than that during the first day and I think it could hit 37,000. We are expecting 700-800 more this year than a year ago." The students were greeted . by 1,700 full and part-time instructors in-structors at 38 elementary schools, including the new Jessie Stewart Elementary School in Centerville, nine junior highs and six high schools. MORE THAN half those attending at-tending Monday were at the elementary schools, with 19,666 tabulated. Some 16,138 were listed at the secondary schools and 229 in special education, 15 in the homebound program, 109 at the Davis Vocational Center, 83 at the developmental center and 17 at the alternative alterna-tive high school, Dr. Welling says.
