Show Sheriff's Office Hatching Beer FARMINGTON - Teenagers Teen-agers beware: DAVIS COUNTY Sheriff's Office has given notice it is going to crack down on beer and drug parties in Davis County's foothills. This has been a problem for us all summer," said Lt. Dean Egbert. "Sheriff deputies depu-ties have been making arrests all summer and on one weekend confiscated three kegs of beer. There also has been some problem with use of marijuana." LT. EGBERT pointed out that it is a misdemeanor offense of-fense for persons under 21 to have been in their possession and it's also an offense for persons contributing to the delinquency of a minor through the purchase or distribution dis-tribution of beer to persons under 21. "We have had regular patrols pa-trols of the foothills and persons per-sons under 21 caught with beer in their possession have been fined," he said. "Some of the fines have been as much as $100." WITH THE holiday weekend this week, the sheriff's office will be out in force patroling the foothills, especially the two big problem areas of Farmington Canyon and in Mueller Park east of Bountiful. Lt. Egbert explained that some of these beer parties have infringed on the rights of others because "decent people" move out of the picnic pic-nic areas when the parties get wild. "IT ALSO creates a driving hazard because the kids get loaded up and then try and drive down the mountain roads," he said. "It's a wonder we haven't had more accidents than we have." grb |
