The .r-s are a different kind of Bountiful s Richard Welling, left, and Dave Mills are anxiously awaiting their battle with Ogden tonight following their efforts in last week's victory over Ben Lomond football team, they don't like to just tackle opponents they like to punish them. Last week the Braves secondary proved they could handle a passing attack which is good news since the Tigers also like to throw the ball. The Braves found a new defensive back last week in Chris Davies. CHRIS HAS been used as a backup quarterback to Richard Welling but had impressed the coaches with his defensive work so they gave him a look at defensive back. He rewarded the coaches with a key interception intercep-tion and several tackles. Speaking of passing attacks the Braves Richard Welling put on a show of his own. The senior co-captain completed 9 of his 11 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. For his efforts the coaches named him Offensive Player of the Week. IT WAS a nice decision for Coach Waite who could have named several players to the award. Both running backs Billy Speaks and Mark Dickerson played well enough to earn the spot, but Wellings performance stood above all others. Devensively the Braves played well especially the linebackers. One of those backers Dave Mills was picked by the coaches as the Defensive Player of the Week. Although others had good games it was Mills that led the team with 20 defensive points. THE COACHES were pleased with the efforts of all the players but two things stood out in their minds. Coach Pettersen was extremely excited about the play of the offensive line of Sheldon Bagley, Mike Tol-man, Tol-man, Gregg Bangeler, Brett Smith, Ken Hosking and Rex Burningham. Coach Waite was pleased with the blocking of running back Billy Speaks, it was Speaks that sprung fellow Dickerson loose. Dickerson ended the night with another 100 yard plus effort. THE COACHES are hoping for the same kind of effort from these people this week against Ogden. It will take a good effort to get by the Tigers who have always been tough for the Braves to handle. Defensive backs Davies, Cliff MacMillian, Doug Angus and Mark Waters will all see plenty of action with the Tigers aerial attack. After scoring only two touchdowns in two games the fans were beginning to wonder if the Braves could score. Well, four touchdowns against the Scots answered that question. If Wellings passing is on and Speaks and Dickerson find the same holes they did last week, the Braves should win, but a lapse in the offensive line could mean disasster for Bountiful, dw |
