Dale Orr of Management System Corp., a data processing system which is a subsidiary owned by the LDS church, presented a plan to the commission on Thursday. HE SUGGESTED that a terminal be installed in the Davis Assessor's office, which would communicate by telephone with the central computer in Salt Lake. This would leave the control of the system in Davis County, he said. Mr. Orr said, the advantage advan-tage of renting computer time is that it is faster and more efficient. It has a built-in plan to maintain software and upgrade the equipment, he said. Commissioner Glen Flint asked for an estimate of how much computer time would ultimately be needed if all Davis County system became computerized. Mrs. Gibbons estimated that currently 9 months time would be nec-cessary. nec-cessary. But she felt auditors would ultimately need more than one terminal. COMMISSIONER Smoot said the county would need a programmer to run the system sys-tem since the county has no computer capacity now. He estimated it would take a year to get the system in operation. |
