How everyone is looking for the Skyline football foot-ball team to collect another state football title while an upstart club from Layton is their next opponent. REMEMBER ALSO though that the Lancers beat Skyline a year ago to end the Eagles' hopes of a third straight championship. This year's version of the semifinal matchup has some of the same names back but for the most part both clubs have a changed look. To add fuel to the fire the Layton crew can remember a day not too long ago in September when the Eagles handed them an embarrassing 38-7 preseason loss. THAT SCORE is an indication indica-tion of the youth of the Lancers, they were starting people up front that had hardly seen any varsity action and were lacking in experience. Meanwhile the Skyline club was handling Orem with as much ease as Layton had handled Alta. The Eagles put 29 points on the board and then shut out the Tigers to win their 10th straight game of the season. SKYLINE DID most of their damage through the airwaves as their quarterback Steve Lindsley enjoyed a good day hitting on 16 of 27 passes for 250 yards and a couple of scores. The Eagle receivers found openings in the Orem secondary with tight end Mike Robbins being the leading lead-ing catcher and wide receiver Kevin Doman right behind him. When the Eagles run they look to senior Craig An-gelos An-gelos to pick up the tough yardage. Layton showed some signs of weakness in the secondary early in the contest witn Aita, but after some adjustments the Lancers shut off the passing pass-ing attack of the Hawks. Burke, Gallegos, Weaver and Lovelace will be called upon again to stop the passing of the Skyline crew. IN THE first meeting the Eagles came away easy victors vic-tors but things have changed. The Lancer line has a lot more confidence in themselves them-selves and have experience which they lacked in the first outing. Both have motives to win this one. Skyline wants to avenge last year's semifinal loss while the Lancers want to improve on the last meeting. CALL IT a hunch but the Layton crew has had good success against Skyline. |
