Show Fight For Decency Beth Jarman who opposes the action ousting Jeanne Layton as county librarian and who spoke in her favor, stated that It would be easier to "give in" to a majority feeling but that it "takes a lot more courage" to fight her dismissal. PERSONALLY I think it is more important to fight for lecency and to use your trength and courage toward ghting for good books, not bad books. Too many people how are more concerned with their "rights" than they are with good principals. They are more concerned with the rights of criminals than the rights of the victims. Your news article stated that Mr. Day who serves as library association president said, "Our democracy is threatened where there are people who want to control what people think." First of all Mr. Day, this isn't a democracy, it is a republic. We pledge allegiance to a republic for which our great American flag stands. ONE OF our founding fathers made the statement that they had given us a republic "if you can keep it." No where in the Constitution can even be found the word democracy. It isn't even in there. I believe it was first stated by President Wilson 1 who when after speaking on a subject added the words, "To make the world safe for democracy," and it was thereafter there-after popularized and people have been calling it that ever since. Democracy is majorit rule, a republic is our thret. separate powers. Anyway' hurray for Commissi!-.-Morris Swapp. P.S. Who said we v--for libraries Mr. Day' j j still have their "rights "it out and buy distasteful we don't have to fumish i-for i-for them. Norma Se?rs Bout'. |
