' J- H , .v; 4A ESTHER HUGHES Esther Hyglies Celebrates A Big 90th Birthcby Mrs. Esther Hughes, mother moth-er of Joyce Sullivan, will be celebrating her 90th birthday on October 10, 1976. Friends are invited to an open house in her honour at the Sullivan, residence, 722 North 5th West, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 1976. Mrs. Huges was born in Douglas, Isle of Man to1 Thomas and Esther Perry on October 10, 1886. She was the third child in a family of six girls and one boy. Three sisters reside in the Isle of Man. In January, 1914, she married Daniel George Hughes Hugh-es in Douglas and they emigrated to Canada in March, .1914 and took up residence in a then remote area of Northern Ontario at the Dobie Mine outside of South Porcupine. Mrs. Hughes recalls walking walk-ing on corduroy roads to town in summer and dog sled trips in winter. She and her husband moved to Schumacher, Schumach-er, Ontario where a son Sidney was born. During a visit home to the Isle of Man, a daughter, Joyce, was born. The family lived at Dome Mines where Mr. Hughes was the steel-shop foreman for 35 years. After retirement, they resided in South Porcupine. Mr. Hughes died in 1963 and Sidney in 1970. Mrs. Hughes has three grandchildren; grandchild-ren; Daniel Hughes in North Bay, Dr. Robin Sullivan in Kingston, Ontario and Mary Jane (Mrs. R. Parry) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three great-grand great-grand children reside in North Bay, Ontario and two in Las Vegas, Nevada. Out of town visitors attending attend-ing the celebration will be Mr. and Mrs. Al Grinager, Los Angeles, California; Sgt. and Mrs. Parry and family of Las Vegas; and Miss Mary Sullivan, Sulli-van, Toronto. Mrs. Hughes thankfully declines any gifts. |
