Show WORD RECEIVED OF DEATH OF ART EXHIBITOR Springville art patrons regretted regret-ted to hear of the death of J. W. Young 80, well known art exhibitor exhibi-tor and collector of Chicago, who since his visit to the Springville art had been an ardent supporter of the local project. Following his first visit here, he sent a large collection of paintings from the Young Gallery in Chicago to be shown in the April exhibit. Mr. Young, in company with his wife, left Chicago some time ago, for a 'business trip to Texas. While there he died of heart trouble and causes incident to advanced age. Mr. Young played an important part in the development of a great number of prominent American Amer-ican artists, and his encourage- j ment to them and his help in ' sale of their paintings aided j greatly in promoting their work. ; He could see no future for what he termed "American Modern Art" and he denounced those ! eastern galleries who tore out old and tested masterpieces to replace re-place them with modern art. He said, "When our American people fully realize the talent and sterling worth of these men who so truly recorded the America Amer-ica in which they lived and the activity of its people, popular opinion will no longer allow our museums to be robbed of so many great masterpieces, to he replaced with the followers of all the art isms of Europe, plus the unbalanced unbal-anced isms in our own country today." |
