Show Wildlife Group Sends Recommendations o "At. and G, Hobble Creek-Diamond Fork area thlTShLallwas the concensus of opinion of the SpringviUe Wild-lX Wild-lX Federation after having spent many hours in discussing the probLm. After talking the problem prob-lem over with the forest ranger, members of the cattle association, "thev freely admit that we have more than ample summer range for our present or even increased deer herd. The trouble lies in our winter range." At present, and with the cooperation co-operation of the cattle association, the Federation is working out a reseeding program whereby various vari-ous grasses and yellow clover weed will be planted on both the summer sum-mer and winter range. It was pointed out furtner in , the letter to the game board that j the number of deer found dead , on the range early this spring, was ( probably due to the congested win- j ter range and where so many deer come because of the winter feeding feed-ing program which attracts them here. Many of these deer had been found "shot by twenty-two rifles and left to die; some of them were killed by dogs, some dieing from natural causes and some we feel certain died from lack of proper nourishment, these being young deer whose mothers were killed during the hunting season last fall." It was also pointed out that more and more hunters are coming com-ing here to hunt with the depletion deple-tion of the southern Utah herds and the SpringviUe Federation recommended "that instead of killing off the deer herd, why not spend some of our accumulated funds for the development of our winter range, for transplanting and reseeding of brouse which would not only protect a well-paying well-paying enterprise, but would beautify and protect our watersheds water-sheds as well?" |
