Show Cedar youth drowns; services held Funeral services were held Wednesday for Donald Kurtis Ence, 18, of Cedar City who drowned in Kolob Reservoir Sunday afternoon. Ence was with a party of other youths on an outing at the reservoir when the drowning accident occurred. Apparently he 'anil two other companions were attempting to swim across the reservoir when Ence fell behind. When it became evident that he was in trouble the other two youths attempted to reach him, but not in time. Other attempts by members of the Washington County Search and Rescue organization also failed in assisting the youth. The accident occurred at approximately ap-proximately 3 p.m. It was nearly six hours later when, through the assistance of scuba divers from Hurricane and Cedar City located the body and recovered it from the lake. Ence was born Feb. 7, 1956 in Cedar City to Donald B. and Shirley Syrett Ence. He graduated just this past year from Cedar City High School and was a cook at the Town & Country Restaurant in Cedar City. He was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors include his parents, a brother and sister, Clynton, Cedar City and Mrs. Curtis (Linda Dawn) Batchelder, Riverside, Calif. Also surviving are grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis W. Ence and Mrs. Mildred Syrett, all of Cedar City. |
