Show A little worried Radiation, an impact on galaxy? such things when I tried to influence a little control over some of my neighborhood neigh-borhood friends. I can imagine what she would say if I told her that the entire galaxy may be affected by what I wanted, and that thus I would study the entire galaxy and see what I could do. you can affect the entire galaxy? It's frightening to me: If nuclear waste repositories can actually influence the entire galaxy, and' I assume only for bad, why is our government even considering such a plan, even if there is the remotest chance of such? If they can't affect such, then where does the Department of Energy get off in even presupposing such importance and power? Things, it seems, are very much out of control. So, in my humble way, let me give a little advice to everyone in Washington or in some type of government govern-ment office. Bureaucrats, you should stick to your bureaus. Washington, you should stick to the United States, or even less. Please, let God worry about the entire gala x v. i By Bruce Lee Now the Department of Energy is a little larger than I am, but I doubt if they are all that powerful. Come on guys, do you really have the right to be looking at some project that could influence the entire galaxy? Or do you really have the gall to claim that County Commissioner Jim Clark pointed this one out to me, and it was simply too good to pass up. The Utah State Clearinghouse Status Report for the end of March lists a number of requests people and individuals in-dividuals have made for government money to fund various projects. These proposals all include the description of the project, the amount of money requested, the impact area and various other items. Most of the requests are very blase (pretend there's an accent mark over that word) and normal, most are not understandable for the nongovernmental non-governmental clone like myself and most of you. But there was one that Jim likes, and he knew it would tickle my perverse funny bone. The Department of Energy, in discussing a draft national plan and environmental assessment for siting high-level radioactive waste repositories (in other words, where are they going to bury the poison?), has named as the impact area of such a plan, are you ready for this?, the entire galaxy. And you thought the nine volumes of the MX Environmental Impact Statement were a little too much. Once again, however, this proves a . maxim that many of us have subscribed sub-scribed to for some time: government is simply too big for its britches. I remember my mother telling me |
