Cedar City a gateway to Color Country sites Cedar Breaks National Monument. Located 25 miles East of Cedar City along Utah State highway 14. Navajo Lake. Also along Utah State highway 14 just a bit East of Cedar Breaks. A beautiful lake, fishing and boating available. Brian Head Peak. Located a bit beyond Cedar Breaks on State highway 143. An unpaved roadwill take yon to the outlook (11,307 ft.) highest point in the vicinity. Lava Beds. Once again, along highway 14, a short jog off the paved road takes you to the Lava Beds. Duck Creek. Also along Utah 14, a recreational area, picnic grounds and excellent fishing lake. Cedar City is the most central gateway to the wonders and attractions of Color Country. It is the jumping off place for visiting the national and state parks and monuments, boating, fishing, attending the Shakespearean Festival, concerts in Dixie College's Obert Tanner Amphitheater, Old Barn Playhouse, Pioneer Courthouse Players, Old Courthouse Repertory Theatre, Kanosh Pageant, fairs, rodeos, golf courses, horse races and many other exciting and interesting events. For example: Bryce Canyon is only Vk hours drive away; others: Zion's Park, l4 hours; Grand Canyon, 4Vi hours; Cedar Breaks, hour; Parowan Petroglyphs, 20 minutes; Navajo Lake, V2 hour; Panguitch Lake, 1 hour; Lake Powell, 3 hours; Brian Head winter and summer resort area, 40 minutes and Kolob Park, Vfe hour. Cedar City offers many services and accomodations for the convenience of travelers. For -example, it has more than a dozen motels and more restaurants than that. The city itself is full of places of interest. These are: Southern Utah State College. Iron Mission State Park. This museum contains interesting in-teresting relics of the past. Painted Hills Golf Club, a nine hole course open to the public. Swimming Pool at the Junior High School on Harding AveflUS; also open to the public. Phone 586-7481 for hours of operation. The Old Rock Church. A museum is operated during the summer season and is open for the public. Located next to the U.S. Post Office on East Center Street. Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum. Located on Center Street at 100 East. Open to the public. |
