Show School Board honors both young and old among the retiring teachers honored for their past service. Also honored for her dedication as Cedar High's choral directory c j was Shirley Roper, who has requested a leave of absence. In other business, Kent Myers, chairman of the Iron County School CEDAR CITY The Iron County Board of Education was treated to accomplishments of the young and old at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday. The vocational education departments of Parowan and Cedar high schools, exhibited by over 150 students and their 11 instructors, presented their awards gained through statewide competitions, the most recent at SUSC. Each of the instructors introduced in-troduced several talented individuals and spoke briefly of their programs. Reports on woods, medals, graphics, automotive, electronics, economics, business, sewing and cooking were given, as well as some of the projects displayed. Wilbur Wilson and Dave Nelson, representing the vocational teachers, also offered suggestions on future improvements and support for feasibility of constructing a county-wide county-wide vocational complex. Cedar High School Principal Vernile Matheson objected to the suggestions being offered to the Board before he had seen them, and the Board agreed; however, it did look at the suggestions, but asked the teachers to work through Matheson. Florine Major, Alice Braithwaite and Jean Henderickson were District Study Commission Com-mission on overcrowding, reported that the five subcommittees were studying alternatives and would conduct another meeting on May 24. High School Principals Matheson, CHS, and Leon Hollingshead, Parowan High School, agreed to study the problem of compensating teachers who spent extra hours in activities such as drama, forenics and music. No decision was reached. |
