Show HEROIC STORY OF AN AMERICAN OFFICER. Capt. Lewis Morey is paid this ex cellent tribute by the Butte Miner: "The story of heroic Capt. Lewis Morey is the record of one of tho bravest deeds in American history. Every one in this nation should read or bo told the story of Captain Morey and how ho was willing to sacrifice himself for tho welfare of his men. "It is beyond tho power of human language to do justice to the act of Captain Morey who, wounded and helpless, dying from loss of blood and of thirst, 'ordered his men to leave him there on the desrt and save themselves. Tho plain, simple and terse way in which the report came to the authorities of what he had done after all is the ost powerful way ot telling the story. His deed typifies forcefully the spirit animating AmerL can soldiers. To what remarkable degree American soldiers and officers would go if need bo in upholding the honor of their nation well can be imagined. No self-sacrlflco would be too great, no deed of valor too much. And Americans knowing that to be so, place absolute reliance on the ability abil-ity of their soldiers and officers, the only regret being that there are not more of them." |
