It will be the first meet on the Moab oval in two years and six teams are expected to compete. Moab will be rebuilding in track this year according to Coach Ford. The Devils do have a veteran nucleus in distance men Iley Copelnnd, Todd Zimmerman and Johnny Shannon plus sprinters Nick Chavez and Russell Peck. Shannon had impressive times in the mile and quarter in the first time trials last week as did Peck in the 440 yard dash. Sophomore Robbie Robinson is promising in the 220 yard dash as is frosh Chad Donoghue in the quarter. For the opening meet, Carbon, Car-bon, Emery, San Juan, Monti-cello, Monti-cello, Green River, East Carbon Car-bon and Moab will field teams. The Moab track is the best, non synthetic oval in the state so despite the early date, times and distances should be good. Coach Ron Pierce will send his tennis team into action Friday, also. East Carbon, Green River, San Juan, Mon-ticello Mon-ticello and Carbon are slated for matches starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday on the Moab courts. Pierce has his number one singles player Mike White back, plus lettermen Ed Tom-sic Tom-sic and Brad Burton back this year. White captured a second place finish in Region Seven last year. |
