Show Book Cliffs Area Set for Oil Well Drilling l nree exploratory wells are being planned in a very remote re-mote and difficult area of eastern Utah's Uintah County according to Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist. Department Depart-ment of Natural Resources. The area is known as the Black Horse Canyon which is located on top of the Roan Plateau of the Book Cliffs region more than 70 miles south ol Vernal. Roads into the area are primarily those south of Ouray Our-ay extending some 40 miles south and southeast. According Accord-ing to maps, the well sites are nearly 50 miles north of the town of Cisco, but there is no access through the Cliffs region. re-gion. Taiga Energy Incorporated of Denver and Great Basins Petroleum Company of California Cali-fornia plan the wells. Taiga Energy is operator of the unitized area which includes 23,036 acres of which 19,737 acres are federal lands; 3,240 acres are state lands and the remainder is Indian lands. The operator will drill a projected 5,150 foot test of the Mancos formation at the No. 1 Bitter Creek well just north-west north-west of the Rat Hole Canyon J vicinity near the Trujillo Ranch properties. Location of the 'WeO site is at an elevation of 6,363 feet. Great Basin Petroleum's wells are just to the south, but higher up. The No. 1 at an elevation of 7,839 feet, will be drilled to 8,000 feet and the No. 2 well at an elevation of 8,198 feet, will go to at least 8,100 feet. Several companies have supporting interests in the ventures. They include Pacific Transmission Supply Company, the Mono Power Corporation, Kerr-McGee Corporation, and Chorney Oil Company. |
