Show Adventists Fast, Proy For Drought Relief Saturday, March 26, was set aside as a special day of prayer and fasting by the Adventists of North America. The members of the Seventh-Day Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Moab Mo-ab joined in to ask God's intercession in these troublous troub-lous times of droughts, floods, dust storms, and ensuing economic ec-onomic crisis in the United States. The Vice-President of the North American division of Seventh-Day Adventists, Neal C. Wilson, stated that, "Leaders in business, agriculture, agricul-ture, industry, and government govern-ment have predicted the possibility poss-ibility that 1977 might develop devel-op as one of the most disastrous disas-trous years in terms of natural natur-al tragedy in United States history. We should really pray that the Lord will spare us from this kind of calamity. We know that troublous times are upon us due to many causes. The severity of the weather during the last few months has already caused untold suffering and the full story has not yet been told. ..We believe it is time for each of us and all of us together to intercede with the Lord." E. E. Cleveland, another Adventist world leader, in reference to the calamities seen all around us lately added, "Now while the prophets pro-phets have predicted that these things will come to pass, there are some things that Christians can do to mute their effects. ...Again and again we are exhorted in scriptures to fast and pray against negative circumstances. circumstan-ces. We are encouraged to utilize those spiritual resour- " ces that are ours for the alteration of negative environmental environ-mental forces. ..Christianity ..Christian-ity not only sustains us to endure that which cannot be changed, but it empowers us to change that which need not be endured." Moab Adventist Pastor R. L. Watts went on to say, "We have been given examples of the power that a God fearing man can have in similar situations. The Bible tells us," he added, 'of Elijah, who prayed and no rain fell for three and a half years. Once again he prayed and then torrents of rain fell." So in keeping with the fundamental belief of the power pow-er of prayer, Adventists here in Moab joined with their brethren across the nation in spending Sabbath, March 26, fasting and praying for God's mercy and intercession for the areas plagued by natural hardships. 1 i t : i L c Li. ssi ... f ; '- . - Scene from "Young Frankenstein" |
