Show Hanksville News. . : . t Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) in Loa and in Green River for Penn Taylor Duncan, 85, a former area resident who died March 22 in Richfield. Penn was born Jan. 28, 1892 in Fremont to Chapman Taylor and Nancy Curry Allred Duncan. He married Minner Ester Taylor June 18, 1913 in Loa. She passed away in 1944. Then he wed Mary Ella Neff in Salt Lake in 1948. He was a farmer most of his life in Green River and Wayne County. He is survived by his widow, wi-dow, sons and daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Dda) Johnson, Bicknell; Mrs. Nolan (Mazel) Curtis, Mrs. Rey Lloyd (La Juan) Hatt, Clell F. Duncan, all of Green River; Mrs. Earl (Cuma) Duncan Johnson, Salt Lake City) Mrs. Craigton (Cleo) Koskie, Antioch, Calif.; Blain Duncan, Washington; Larell Duncan, Payson; Arizona; Ari-zona; Brent, Heber City. He is also survived by 42 grandchildren, grand-children, 34 great-grandchildren. Stepchildren are: Neff, Vancouver, Washington; Garth Duncan, Sunnyside, Calif.; Yvonne Briner, Eagle, Idaho; Robert Duncan, Denver, Den-ver, Colorado. Brothers and sisters who survive are: Emily Em-ily Bell Taylor, Fremont, Utah; Afton Kay, Denver, Colorado; Lawrence Duncan, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Loa LDS Stake Center with additional services at the Green River LDS Ward Chapel at 3:30 p.m., with burial in the Green River Cemetary. Bishop Ronald Kay Erick-son Erick-son took a group of Hanksville youths to the Manti Temple Thursday. The group included: includ-ed: Elly Mae Robison, Sandy, Lance and Bill Wells, Shelly Bullard, Vicki Johnson, Michelle Mi-chelle Erickson, Sherry Wilcox, Wil-cox, Randy and Danny Ger-heart, Ger-heart, Eva Lampman. Harry Hill, father of Mrs. Larry (Rita Ann) Ekker was injured Thursday at noon in Salt Lake where he's employed employ-ed at International Harvester. He was working on a truck bumper when a heavy tailgate fell down on his head knocking him unconscious. The incident was reported on TV-Channel 4 and his daughter saw her father and called him at St. Marks hospital where he was recuperating. Eula Allen was in Provo the 17th for a medical check-up and then went on to Salt Lake to visit her mother, Mrs. Una Gass, who accompanied her home for a few days' visit. Mrs. Julia Ekker Cheskaty is in Eugene, Oregon, visiting her daughter and husband, Pam and Bill Fink, who have recently purchased a new home. Relatives of Harvey Mech-am Mech-am were in town last weekend placing their property up ior sale. This acre lot is located south of the MRC Stagecoach Cafe and Motel. Guy Coombs has been hauling haul-ing his sheep back to the Teasdale area after loading at North Wash this week. His son, George, is assisting him. Bill Adams, of Idaho, and owner of the Granite Ranch, has sent the Hanksville School children $25 to be used for a group project. Mr. Adams has made similar contributions to the school each year for the past ten years. Thank you. Bill, for your generosity. Kim Wilson is visiting his grandparents, Darys and Clel-la Clel-la Ekker, from his home in Idaho. He is the oldest son of their oldest daughter, Ina. Mrs. Ranae Albrecht visited visit-ed her mother, Mrs. Ida Weber, last week from her home in Bicknell. . Mrs. Nell Ekker has been the community chairman for the heart fund this year. Mrs. Connie Brown has been appointed ap-pointed as the chairman of the Red Cross Drive. Mrs. Harriet Noyes returned return-ed home this week from the Price hospital where she's been a patient for the past week. Mrs. Clella Ekker has been acting postmaster during dur-ing her absence. Holiday Studio from Moab has taken the community's photos this week when they set up their 'shop' at the Stage Coach Store. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ekker and son, Dan, attended funeral funer-al services in Rock Springs March 9 for her grandmother, Agnes Baxter who was 85. Mrs. Baxter is survived by sons, Robert Baxter and John Baxter of Portland, Oregon, and daughter, Mrs. Lucille DeWester. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Elwood Baxter, and daughter, Mrs. Ann Allen, who was Mrs. Ekker's mother. Prior to attending at-tending services, the Ekkers were struck broadside in an intersection in Rock Springs by a youth which did extensive exten-sive damage to their station wagon. League of Utah Writers will conduct a special meeting April 1 in PVice. Dora FTack, who is president of the League of Utah Writers will be the featured speaker. Mrs. Flack is well known in this area as her recent book is "Butch Cassidy, My Brother" by Lula Parker Betensen, his sister, as told to Mrs. Flack. Mrs. Flack has published six other books in the field of food, biography and juvenile writing. Her latest is a collaboration collab-oration with Janice Dixon on writing autobiography which is being published by Double-day Double-day and will be out in October. Mr. and Mrs. Glen P. Johnson John-son have returned home from Roosevelt where they've been visitng their daughter and familv. John and Ann Petrio. Others taking the Thursday Temple excursion to Manti was Todd and Douglas Stewart, Stew-art, George Jackson accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Tom (Gloria) Martin, Elaine Johnson, and Mrs. Susan Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Ekker returned to their home in Reno Monday after spending a week here visiting relatives. Bruce had a medical appointment appoint-ment at the VA hospital on the 24. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bonnema, Ft. Collins, Colorado, arrived early this week for their yearly year-ly visit with friends. They keep their mobile home parked park-ed at the Ekker court so they can 'get away from it all' occasionally. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cheskaty and son Larry will drive to Gustin, California this week where they will meet Julia Ekker Cheskaty and visit with their daughter and husband. hus-band. Steven Shae Hatch, son of Steven and Carolyn Hatch, was blessed and named Sun day by his great grandfather, Harold Ekker. In attendance for the occasion were grandparents grand-parents Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reay, Green River, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boiler, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ekker, Hanks-.ville Hanks-.ville and Mr. and Mrs. Monte Curtis (Paula Reay) from Moab. Mo-ab. A luncheon for the group followed at the Harold Ekker home. Word was received here that Mrs. Lily Denny is in poor health. She is visiting with her niece in Oregon. The niece is a daughter of her sister. Rita Tangren. Both Lily and Rita were former school teachers in Hanksville. |
