Show Volunteers cited for services at Council on Aging banquet By KATHRYN JENNINGS The Davis County Council on Aging held their 12th annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet Ban-quet on May 12. The affair was held at the Red Flame Restaurant in Bountiful. "Volunteers, Our Greatest Natural Resource" Re-source" was the theme of the program. There were 230 guests attending and all were welcomed wel-comed by Howard B. Stringham, master of ceremonies. He is the chairman of the Council on Aging Board of Directors. Following dinner, Leo Kinsman, chairman of the Volunteer Services Committee, introduced intro-duced Norma W. Matheson, guest speaker. Mrs. Matheson spoke on "Compassion and Commitment" of the volunteers in Davis County, and that they had served for 38,875 hours during 1986. These volunteers receive no remuneration for any of their time in this volunteer volun-teer service. Mrs. Matheson also said that the state of Utah has more volunteers than any other state, a fine record for this state. She has attended many of the recognition banquets for volunteers volun-teers in Davis County over the past years and feels this is a wonderful service. William L. Peters, Davis County Commissioner Commis-sioner presented special awards to those who had served more than 400 hours during the past year. Thirteen volunteers had served. From the Golden Years Center in Bountiful, those serving over 400 hours were Lenarda Johnson, Walter Willey, John Perry and Kathryn Jennings. Jen-nings. Serving more than 50 hours during 1986 were 204 volunteers in Davis County. Bonnie Conover, alternatives manager, presented pre-sented those in the Senior Companion Program. Prog-ram. Seven senior companions were introduced. intro-duced. Presenting certificates to the volunteers were Glen Saunders and William Peters, Davis County Commissioners. Howard Stringham and Leo Kinsman also assisted. |
