Show Anderson's single lifts Braves over 'Cats to give the Cats a 4-2 lead. Both teams will now prepare for Wednesday action. Winners in the first round games will advance to next week's tournament at two locations in Salt Lake City. By TOM HARALDSEN WOODS CROSS Bountiful's Rhett Anderson ripped a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning to score Tony Smith, and Jim Crawford followed with a run-scoring run-scoring double to propel Bountiful to a 6-4 Region Four victory over Woods Cross Friday afternoon. The win moved Bountiful to 6-4 in league, 12-4 overall, and clinched clin-ched a second place finish for the Braves. Bountiful will now open state playoff action by hosting either Mountain View or American Fork on Wednesday at 3:30. Winner Win-ner of that game will advance to the state tournament. Meanwhile, the Woods Cross Wildcats came out ahead thanks to a coin flip held Monday morning between principals of Woods Cross, Davis and Viewmont, the three teams that tied at 5-5 in league. Woods Cross won the toss and will enter the first round of the playoffs as the fourth place team in Region Four. That means a first-- first-- round matchup with defending . state champ Taylorsville, sometime some-time on Wednesday. Viewmont and Davis will play this afternoon (Tuesday) at 3:30 p.m. at Viewmont, with the winner taking third place and the loser staying home. Chad Rigby pitched five strong innings for Bountiful on Friday, before be-fore giving way to eventual winner Chris Fairclough. Sid Smith tied the game for Bountiful with a two-run two-run sixth inning homer, forcing the Braves and Wildcats into the extra inning. For Woods Cross, Mike Smith went the distance, pitching well but being victimized by five errors. Ron Hales was the hitting star for the Wildcats, driving in two runs with a triple and eventually scoring |
