Show Community Hospital seeks volunteers Scores of volunteers both individual and groups are needed at South Davis Community Hospital to assist in the daily care of about 75 physically and mentally handicapped patients. Janice Brinkerhoff, activities director at the hospital, said volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, have love and compassion for others, and a desire to serve. Patients being served range in age from the very young to the elderly. "Volunteer service may range from providing entertainment to serving patients on a one-to-one basis," the activities director noted. "Patients need someone to help them with errands, write letters, read to them, play games, take them on walks, and provide minimal grooming." Volunteers are also need for the many special events held for patients in the hospital, including cookouts, birthday parties, and special events. MIA and scouting projects could include wood-working, presenting pre-senting skits, making craft items, quilting, etc. A request is also made for donation of a new American Flag to replace one that was stolen. An in-hospital patients' store is scheduled to open June 2 and I volunteers will be needed to help with this project. |
