They mark the site of the once beautiful Malvern hotel. Hungry forest fires were responsible for the deaths of at least 22 persons throughout New England N and wrought 32 million dollars damage. In Maine, 851 permanent homes and 297 cottages were destroyed , and 100,000 acres of forest were consumed by the flames. Bar Harbor itself was two-thirds destroyed in the fire that raged for days. |
